The holidays are a time of joyous giving and heartwarming acts of kindness. In the spirit of giving back, CHI Haircare recently worked with The Kelly Clarkson Show to honor volunteer firefighters Lupe Clary and Dawn Kunkel with makeovers.
Their story and friendship began in 2011. Clary, a breast cancer survivor, and Kunkel were friends bonded for life through a heart-wrenching tragedy. They were first responders on the scene of a fatal car accident that involved a 17-year-old male. Kunkel soon discovered that the victim was her own son. It was Clary who helped Kunkel get through the tragic loss.
The touching story resonated with Dr. Farouk Shami, Founder and Chairman of Farouk Systems, Inc., who wanted give the two women a special day as beautiful as their friendship.
“We’re thrilled to give these women a makeover using CHI products,” said Dr. Shami, prior to the taping of the show. “We wanted to treat them to an unforgettable experience that celebrated their beauty, inside and out.”
CHI Global Board Artist Anna Cantu and CHI Creative Artist Martha Torres were the talented styling team in charge of changing up the women’s looks. For the makeovers, the hairdressers used CHI LAVA tools, CHI Aloe Vera styling aids and the CHI Shine Shades color line.
After some time in the hair and makeup chair, Clary and Kunkel’s looks were revealed and the results were amazing!
After the transformations, Dr. Shami sat down with actress Karen Gillan, actor Sterling K. Brown and the daytime series’ host Kelly Clarkson to talk about the use of natural ingredients in CHI products.
“We’re firm believers of using natural, organic ingredients,” said Dr. Shami. “We want every hairdresser and consumer to use [environmentally] safe products.”
The holiday spirit of giving continued when Dr. Shami gave Clary and Kunkel all of the CHI products used for their makeovers. He also surprised audience members by giving out over 100 CHI Spin N Curls.
