‘Tis the season to be tacky, fa-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la. Whether you’re going to an office holiday party or hosting a cookie exchange for your family and friends, tacky Christmas sweaters are welcome attire at all gatherings this time of year.
We’d guess you’re probably pretty busy this month. Between shopping for everyone on your Nice List and decking your home’s halls with boughs of holly, you probably don’t have time to knit a sweater. That’s why these tacky Christmas sweaters aren’t actually sweaters at all.
Take the shortcut and order plain crew neck sweatshirts online. We ordered festive colors like bright red to decorate for Christmas and royal blue to put a Hanukkah spin (dreidel, dreidel, dreidel) on tacky sweaters.
Instead of knitting or buying a custom sweater (they can get expensive), save some money and host a holiday craft night at your house. Spend the night making these festive iron-on sweatshirts with the help of your CHI iron and serve cookies and cocktails to make spirits even brighter.
We used Cricut Design Space to create our iron-on text and graphics, but you could use any photo or text editing program. We went the punny route when it came to creating our iron-ons, but the options are endless. String lights, Christmas trees, quotes from your favorite holiday movies – you’ll find a way to tacky it up.
Once the iron-ons are printed and cut to size, it’s time to iron. Directions vary by the type of transfer paper you purchase, but make sure you’ve turned your CHI iron’s heat ON and the steam OFF.
Once the iron is set to temperature, place the custom iron-on onto your sweatshirt and apply pressure as you set the iron down on top. As soon as you’ve pressed the iron-on for the time indicated on the packaging, remove the iron and let it cool. When the iron-on is cool to the touch, peel back the transfer paper.
Wear your sweatshirts as-is or go from tacky to tackier and use a hot glue gun or velcro to attach jingle bells, colorful pom-poms, or snowflakes for a 3D touch.
Run your CHI hairstyling iron through your hair, throw on your tacky Christmas sweatshirt and a pair festive earrings, and prepare to be “Best Dressed” at every party this holiday season.
