MENUMENU

Over the past few months, we’ve seen celebrities, influencers and women alike ditch their subtle, lighter locks for a walk on the wild side.Trading in blonde hues for blues and sunkissed strands for rose golds, this year’s biggest summer color trend is all about creating deep, rich colors that make a bold statement. Inspired by this sizzling summer trend, CHI Artists Anna Cantu and Cynthia Diersen used CHI Ionic Shine Shades, a versatile liquid color system that can be used for permanent, demi and semi color formulations, to show us how to get the top colors your clients will be soon begging for.

Pre-Lightening Formula: Equal parts of CHI Infra High Lift BB + CB and 20 volume color Generator. Then toned with CHI Color Illuminate Platinum, if needed, to remove unwanted yellow tones.

Before Color Application: Prep the hair with CHI Keratin Mist before every color application.

Step 1: Start by creating the first Arc parting from the fringe to the nape, clip away and repeat on the opposite side.

Step 2: Apply the Shadow Root Formula to the root area, starting below the Arc. Then take vertical sections and feather the color into the sub-section working towards the mid-shaft.

Step 3: Continue with step 2 up towards the front perimeter and around the hairline.

Pro Tip: By using a few strands of cellophane wrap to cover the first color, you can lock in moisture and avoid your color transferring to other strands.

Step 4: Apply Shadow Root Formula around the perimeter of the middle section.

Step 5A: Create Arc sub-sections using the feathering technique and saturate the strands on both sides. Repeat this technique, from the back of the fringe to the crown area.

Creative Artistic Tip: By combining two CHI Feather Tip Color Brushes together, you will be able to create patterns and apply more product as needed.

Step 5B: Use the Color board and specialized double brush to pull the hair color through to the ends, alternating between the Shadow Root Formula, Formula 2 and 3.

Step 6: Continue with the same two formulas and repeat the techniques from steps 5B throughout the parietal ridge.

Pro Tip: Using your finger in between the two specialized double brushes will allow you to create various amounts of depth within the top of the head.

Step 7A: Once reaching the apex gently feather the Shadow Root Formula further down the hair strand to the mid-shaft. Then repeat step 5B throughout the crown and apex area.

Step 7B: Creating thin horizontal section apply the Shadow Root Formula to the fringe and repeat the techniques from steps 7A and B.

Step 8: In the back, take long reverse diagonal parts from the occipital bone to the crown. Then use the weaving and slicing technique as you alternate between steps 6A and 6B.
